TheHonestDeck is a small collection of classic thinking games — chess, chess puzzles, 2048 and Sudoku — that run on this website, in your browser. There are no accounts, nothing to buy and nothing hidden behind a sign-up. The games are built on open-source components we host ourselves, and they are here to be played, and that is all they are meant for.

Chess Chess. A full game against the computer on three levels, or against a friend on the same screen. Legal moves light up as you pick a piece.
Chess Puzzles Chess Puzzles. Positions from real games where one line is clearly best. Find the continuation; a hint is there when you are stuck.
2048 2048. Slide the tiles, join equal numbers and work your way up to 2048. The board remembers where you left off.
Sudoku Sudoku. A fresh grid every time, from easy to expert. Check your work whenever you like.

Every game is hosted here and opens in the page you are on. If a game needed a download, a plug-in or a sign-up before the first move, it would not be on the list.

The games are built on established open-source components and a public collection of puzzle positions, and we check them ourselves. Anything that stops working properly comes off the list.

Why Play These Games

Chess is roughly 1,500 years old and Sudoku grids have been printed daily for decades. They have survived because a good thinking game gives you a fair fight, a clear result, and something to think about afterwards.

TheHonestDeck exists because starting a decent game should take ten seconds, not an evening of searching. We keep the list short, host the games ourselves, and stay out of the way.

Two kinds of game, two kinds of evening

Chess asks for patience: a single game can run half an hour and you will think about it afterwards. The puzzles, 2048 and Sudoku are the opposite: three minutes, a small satisfaction, and another round. Both belong on the same shelf.

Play the computer or play a friend

Chess offers three computer levels, from gentle to strong. Choose “A friend, same screen” instead and pass the phone or the mouse back and forth — the easiest way to keep a long-running rivalry going across the kitchen table.

It works on the device you already have

Every game runs in a normal browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. No app store, no install, no sign-up wall before your first move. If you have ten minutes and a data connection, you have a game.

A short list, kept current

We check every game, keep the components it is built on up to date, and add a game only when it earns the space. If something here is broken or you think a game is missing, tell us and we will look at it.
